Dr. Özcan worked as a teacher educator at Clarke University and Rhode Island College in the USA for 22 years. Dr. Özcan has been the Dean of the Faculty of Education at MEF University since 2014. Dr. Özcan developed two educational models and received the patents for them. One of them is a hybrid model integrating university and school for teacher education called OKULDA ÜNİVERSİTE (University within School). The other is DERSDEM (Courses-Values-Experience), a project-based learning model designed to learn both academics and ethical values through experience. Dr. Özcan presented his educational models in various conferences in Turkey, Cyprus, Finland, Italy, Ireland and the United States.
