Prof. Unal is previous Dean of the School of Medicine and currently the Chair of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Director of Vaccine Institute at Hacettepe University in Turkey. He previously served as a Fellow in Infectious Diseases at the New England Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. His main areas of interest include the mechanisms of resistance to different antibiotics in gram-positive bacteria, adult vaccination, and COVID-19 research. Prof. Unal is president of the Turkish Society of Hospital Infection and Control; and general secretary of the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.
